The Presidential List

George Washington

The First President of the United States of America – George Washington.  He served from 1789-1797.  His vice President was John Adams.

John Adams

The Second President of the United States of America – John Adams. He served from 1797-1801.  His vice President was Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson

The Third President of the United States of America – Thomas Jefferson.  He served from 1801-1809.  His vice Presidents were Aaron Burr and George Clinton.

 

James Madison

The Fourth President of the United States of America – James Madison.  He served from 1809 – 1817.  His vice Presidents were George Clinton and Elbridge Gerry.

James Monroe

The Fifth President of the United States of America – James Monroe. He served from 1817-1825.  His vice President was Daniel D. Tompkins.

John Quincy Adams

The Sixth President of the United States of America – John Quincy Adams.  He served from 1825-1829.  His vice President was John C. Calhoun.

Andrew Jackson

The Seventh President of the United States of America – Andrew Jackson.  He served from 1829-1837.  His vice Presidents were John C. Calhoun and Martin Van Buren.

Martin Van Buren

The Eighth President of the United States of America – Martin Van Buren.  He served from 1837-1841.  His vice President was Richard M. Johnson.

The Ninth President of the United States of America – William Henry Harrison.  He served from March 4, 1841 – April 4, 1841.  His vice President was John Tyler.

The Tenth President of the United States of America – John Tyler.  He served from 1841-1845. Tyler was vice president under President William Henry Harrison and became president upon Harrison’s death on April 4, 1841. This was before the adoption of the Twenty-fifth Amendment in 1967, and a vacancy in the office of vice president was not filled until the next election.

The Eleventh President of the United States of America – James K. Polk.  He served from March 4, 1845 – March 4, 1849. His vice President was George M. Dallas.

The Twelfth President of the United States of America – Zachary Taylor.  He served from March 4, 1849[a] – July 9, 1850. His vice President was Millard Fillmore.

The Thirteenth President of the United States of America – Millard Fillmore.  He served from July 9, 1850 – March 4, 1853. Fillmore was Vice President under President Zachary Taylor and became President upon Taylor’s death on July 9, 1850. Prior to adoption of the Twenty-fifth Amendment in 1967, a vacancy in the office of Vice President was not filled until the next election and inauguration..

The Fourteenth President of the United States of America – Franklin Pierce.  He served from March 4, 1853 – March 4, 1857. His vice President was William R. King.

The Fifteenth President of the United States of America – James Buchanan.  He served from March 4, 1857 – March 4, 1861. His vice President was John C. Breckinridge.

The Sixteenth President of the United States of America – Abraham Lincoln.  He served from March 4, 1861 – April 15, 1865. His vice President was Hannibal Hamlin.

The Seventeenth President of the United States of America – Andrew Johnson.  He served from April 15, 1865 – March 4, 1869. Johnson was vice president under Abraham Lincoln and became president upon Lincoln’s death. Prior to the adoption of the Twenty-fifth Amendment in 1967, a vacancy in the office of vice president was not filled until the next election..

The Eighteenth President of the United States of America – Ulysses S. Grant.  He served from March 4, 1869 – March 4, 1877. His vice President was Schuyler Colfax (1869–1873) and Henry Wilson (1873–1875).

The Nineteenth President of the United States of America – Rutherford B. Hayes.  He served from March 4, 1877 – March 4, 1881. His vice President was William Almon Wheeler.

The Twentieth President of the United States of America – James Garfield.  He served from March 4, 1881 – September 19, 1881. His vice President was Chester A. Arthur.

The 21st President of the United States of America – Chester A. Arthur.  He served from September 19, 1881 – March 4, 1885. Arthur was Vice President under James A. Garfield and became President upon Garfield’s death on September 19, 1881. This was prior to the adoption of the Twenty-fifth Amendment in 1967, and a vacancy in the office of Vice President was not filled until the next election and inauguration..

The 22st President of the United States of America – Grover Cleveland.  He served from March 4, 1885 – March 4, 1889. His vice President was Thomas Andrews Hendricks.

The 23rd President of the United States of America – Benjamin Harrison.  He served from March 4, 1889 – March 4, 1893. His vice President was Levi P. Morton.

The 24th President of the United States of America – Grover Cleveland.  He served from March 4, 1893 – March 4, 1897. His vice President was Adlai Stevenson.

The 25th President of the United States of America – William McKinley.  He served from March 4, 1897 – September 14, 1901. Garret Hobart (1897–1899) and Theodore Roosevelt (Mar–Sep 1901).

The 26th President of the United States of America – Theodore Roosevelt .  He served from September 14, 1901 – March 4, 1909. His vice President was Charles W. Fairbanks.

The 27th President of the United States of America – William Howard Taft.  He served from March 4, 1909 – March 4, 1913. His vice President was James S. Sherman.

The 28th President of the United States of America – Woodrow Wilson.  He served from March 4, 1913 – March 4, 1921. His vice President was Thomas Riley Marshall.

The 29th President of the United States of America – Warren G. Harding.  He served from March 4, 1921 – August 2, 1923. His vice President was Calvin Coolidge.

The 30th President of the United States of America – Calvin Coolidge.  He served from August 2, 1923 – March 4, 1929. His vice President was Charles Gates Dawes.

The 31st President of the United States of America – Herbert Hoover.  He served from March 4, 1929 – March 4, 1933. His vice President was Charles Curtis.
